I am starting this new blog as a partner to the podcast that I am intending to start which will be addressing the idea of intersectionality here on the island of Cyprus.
I am an immigrant here, although I am sure some would insist on referring to me as an American "expat". I have been living on this island for over 10 years. I love living here (mostly)! The food, scenery, and people offer an abundance of joy, beauty, and pleasure, but as with anyplace I have ever lived, there are the negative aspects which only fester if not addressed.
To that end, the plan is to talk with fellow immigrants (even expats) about their experiences here and relating those experiences to whatever marginalized groups we may belong to beyond just being foreigners, as well as talking with natives that also belong to marginalized groups about their experiences.
I foresee the bulk of the content being in the podcast form, but I will use this blog to share writings and thoughts that are relevant. The first entry after this welcome will be a piece I wrote in June of 2020, I am racist, which I think does a good job of explaining where it is that I am "coming from" in this venture.
